Giovanni Battista Riccio (1563-after 1620) was a prominent Venetian organist and composer whose music, long forgotten, is now the focus of renewed scholarly attention. The critical edition of his music is one of the outcomes of a long-term project dedicated to the study and promotion of incomplete polyphony, carried out by a research group within the Department of Cultural Heritage at the University of Padua.
The Primo libro delle divine lodi (1612) includes 35 compositions: 33 sacred concertos (1 for solo voice, 31 for two voices and 1 for three voices) and 2 canzonas for two instruments. PDFs of the transposed versions of the pieces that require transposition are available for download.
Due to the loss of two pages of the Cantus part-book, five motets are now lacking their upper part. These works are published both in their original incomplete form and in versions supplemented by scholarly reconstructions of the missing part.
The incomplete compositions are also available as editable musicxml files for download.
